Of Bikes And Men is a serie of portraits of bicycle and cyclists I started when I arrived in The Hague in 2017.
The idea of this long term personal project is to draw an original but realistic portrait of the people of Netherland.
Most of these illustrations are inspired by situations I saw in real life.
When I began these illustrations I had and still have two references in mind :
- the cartoon "Father and Daughter", from Dutch director Michael Dudok de Wit, which gave me my first hint about Dutch bikes, landscapes and weather.
- the Dutch artist Dick Bruna for the simplicity of his illustrations , the elegance of his continuous thick black lines, and his flat colors.
