At the end of 2024, the Aflatoun International kindly allowed RDA (Rural Development Association) to adapt its educational textbooks series for Abkhazia. The series consists of 8 textbooks, each addressed to a specific age group : textbook 1 is for the 6-7 years old, textbook 2 for the 8-9 years, and so on...
Together with the RDA team, we decided to create a group of recurring characters - Inal, Salimat, Maya, Luka, Astamur and Guranda - who would age along with the books at the same pace as the readers, and would interact with the small flame, the Aflatoun's mascot. We decided to begin with the first three textbooks of the series.
For each textbook, we created about 20 additional illustrations (cover, chapters, exercises), we checked, corrected, and adapted the first Russian translation, we adapted the page design depending on the length of the new text - the Russian translation being often significantly longer than the original English text - and, in addition to the initial textbook designed for the facilitator, we created a specific student textbook with additional original exercises.
Here are the covers of the three first textbooks, as well as some illustrations of the inside pages.

This initiative is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the framework of one multiyear cooperation project implemented by RDA as a subgrantee of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).
